Philip Franklin Whitfield, 90, of Franklinton, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017. He was born on August 26, 1926 to the late James Edward and Mary Wortham Whitfield . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Leah McFee. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Holmes Whitfield and several nieces and nephews.

Phil served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was an MP. He is a member of the American Legion Post 52 and a member of Franklinton United Methodist Church. Phil was a livestock farmer, having raised hogs, cattle, and sheep. His hobbies included carpentry, which he learned from both his father and grandfather, carving walking sticks and working with stained glass.
