Obituary for Mozelle Carver

Dr. Mozelle Carver, 91, went to be with the Lord the morning of April 10, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Isaiah Thomas Carver and Sadie Ball Carver of Lowes Grove, NC.
Mozelle was a professor of English composition, creative writing and methods of education for college and high-school level schools and universities over her teaching career. She taught at Brevard College, State Community College in East St. Louis, IL, Sul Ross University in Del Rio, TX, Del Rio High School in Del Rio, TX, and Eagle Pass High School in Eagle Pass, TX. In addition, she taught English Composition, English as a Second Language, and Creative Writing in Illinois and at the University of Texas and Park College, Bergstrom. Mozelle received her bachelor’s degree in Religion/English and her master’s in Religion/Education degree from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX, her master’s degree in English Education at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL, and her Ph.D. in Education Administration from University of Texas, Austin, TX.
In addition to teaching, Mozelle was a writer of poetry and prose. Her writings have been published in various periodicals and academic journals. She was also a lover of music, sports, antiques and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Carver, Irving Carver, Vernon Carver, and Marvin Carver; and by sisters, Louise Hall, Carrie Maddry, Ruth Duncan, Gladys Lovitt and Catherine Jeffries.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Carver Hargrove; her son, Mark Graham Vickers of Raleigh and daughter, Sandra Vickers Haas (Paul Kersens) of Panama City Beach, FL.; grandchildren, Timothy D. Haas (Jen) of Millstadt, IL; Jamie T. Haas (Charity) of St Louis, MO; and Michael A. Haas of St. Louis, MO; and great-grandchildren, Abbey Haas, Caleb Haas, Katey Haas, and Natalie Haas.
Mozelle asked in lieu of a funeral or memorial, that friends and relatives honor her life by making a donation to a charity.
